Local treasures

On a little tell - quite possibly the one you can see from my loungeroom window - not far away, are the wonderful remains of Hesbon (variously spelt). Derelect and overgrown, it is nevertheless astonishing for the layers of historical evidence, piled up one upon another. At sunset, the place seems somewhat eerie (not to mention positively dangerous with many wells and caves the unwary could fall into), but the views of the surrounding countryside are gorgeous. Not least interesting were these colourful red ants, so picturesquely arranged that I thought I was taking a picture of the local flora, or these little chaps who lived nearby with their chickens.
